Welcome to Almost Home Rescue!!

We are a 501c3 non-profit all-breed rescue organization dedicated to saving lives and finding forever homes for stray, abandoned and surrendered dogs in danger of euthanasia. We are strictly a volunteer run organization and have no paid staff or board members.

We rely on a network of volunteer foster homes and do not have a physical shelter. Almost Home Rescue holds a Maine state permit to import dogs.

Most of AHR’s dogs have come from Arkansas kill shelters, however we also take dogs from local shelters, veterinarians and other situations that have required rescue.

All of our imported dogs arrive with a current Health Certificate, meet Maine state import and vaccination requirements, wormed, microchipped and transported on an U.S.D.A. approved transport.

Communication: We prefer e-mail. It is more accessible and you will get a quicker reply, it simplifies the process as we do most of the process on the computer and can share information with volunteers much easier.

LOOKING TO SURRENDER YOUR DOG? Our rescue does not generally take owner surrenders. Private citizens looking to surrender their dog, should request assistance from their local shelter. Please do not advertise FREE to good home in the paper or Craig’s list, many of these dogs do not end up in good homes, but meet sad ends.
